Making a thumbnail people actually click
The frame that best represents a video is rarely the first one. Openings are often a fade, a slate or an empty room, which is exactly why platform-chosen thumbnails look so lifeless. Extract an evenly spaced set first and look at them together. The frame you want usually has a face turned toward the camera, one clear subject, and enough contrast to read at the size of a phone thumbnail. Take that one at full size, then crop it to the shape the platform wants.
