Mirroring, and the text problem

A mirrored frame reverses everything in it, including any writing. A shirt logo, a whiteboard, a phone screen or a shop sign will read backwards after the flip, and that is usually more distracting than the framing problem you set out to fix. So check the preview before you export. If there is text in the shot, mirroring is often the wrong answer and a crop or a rotation is the right one.

How the flip is done here

Each decoded frame is drawn onto a canvas with the axis inverted, then handed back to the encoder. That is the same technique a native editor uses, and it is lossless in the sense that no scaling happens: pixel one becomes pixel N with nothing invented in between. The only quality cost is the re-encode itself, which is the price of any pixel-level change. Set the quality to High or Maximum under Output if the source is already compressed hard and you would rather not compound it.

What this tool will not do

  • It will not fetch a video from YouTube, TikTok, Instagram or any other platform. You have to have the file.
  • It will not repair a corrupt or partially downloaded file. If a player cannot open it, neither can this.
  • It will not add anything to the picture: no captions, no logos, no filters. It edits the file you brought.
  • Speed is your hardware. A long 4K clip on a phone will take minutes where a laptop takes seconds.

Questions, answered

Most phones show the front camera mirrored while you record, because that is what you are used to seeing in a mirror, and then save the file the right way round. Text and logos read correctly in the saved file but look wrong to you. Mirroring here flips it back to the version you saw while filming.
Yes. Rotation can be stored as a flag in the container; a flip cannot, in any format we know of. Each frame is decoded, drawn flipped onto a canvas and compressed again, so it takes about as long as a crop or a resize.
Not reliably, and it is not what this is for. Modern platform matching is robust to flips. Mirror a video because the framing calls for it, not to disguise it.
No. The file is opened by your browser with the File API and rewritten with WebCodecs, the same video machinery your browser uses to play a video. Nothing is sent to a server, so there is no upload wait, no queue and no copy of your file sitting in someone's storage bucket.
There is no limit we impose. The practical ceiling is your machine: the file is read in small pieces rather than loaded whole, so multi-gigabyte sources open instantly, and if you turn on 'write straight to disk' the result never has to fit in memory either. On a phone, expect long clips to be slow.
None of the three. Because the work happens on your machine, this costs us nothing to run, so there is nothing to gate. You get the file you made, unmarked.
Anything current: Chrome, Edge, Safari 17 and up, and Firefox 130 and up. The tools use WebCodecs, so a very old browser will report that it cannot encode, rather than producing a broken file.
